The fire could have been reduced a bit more. A nice cone 10 though. These are mostly shino's in this fire with a few blue cups which are not shown. The small pots in front are made from recycled trimmings. They make a nice combo, the white clay giving the consistency and the red and black giving some wonderful characteristics.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4Wz3Xg9n3Zw/S3CL1tKpPRI/AAAAAAAAAA8/JeTVic71sQ4/s320/pete%27s-plum-cups.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435998505009757458" />

These are a series of cups I am making for an old friend. The feel of a handmade handle is very different than one made by machine.
One of the nice things about pottery. In the last couple of weeks I have made a series of cups from a clay called 570. A very white clay that will produce some beautiful blues. These may get i the fire in the next few weeks.

new year cups

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4Wz3Xg9n3Zw/S0DhT_6iBkI/AAAAAAAAAAc/D2XwXxydMrs/s320/DSC_3709.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422581685044774466" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4Wz3Xg9n3Zw/S0Dgk3eFRHI/AAAAAAAAAAU/Ix2gAsWBzH8/s200/pompeii+ash.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422580875324114034" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4Wz3Xg9n3Zw/S0De3HG2PTI/AAAAAAAAAAM/1IstuR5qgmY/s200/cupweb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422578989736017202" />
Hello and happy New Year everyone! I decided to make at least a weekly attempt to blog my activities concerning pottery.
I am currently working in the area of ceramics and thought it might be interesting to log my adventures. This will include images as well as any comments.

In the past year I was working with a variety of espresso type cups. These cups were made with the famous Shino glazes that were developed in Japan several centuries ago. I love the earthy character of these glazes. The example on the left is called called a carbon trap glaze. The sheen is really nice and I am lucky when I am able to get it. The other small cup I call moab- it really captures the area in Southern Utah. I will post some images from my last art fair and my future art fairs in that part of the country....
