pulled not pressed

My new handles are turning out quite nice. The feel of a handmade handle is very different than one made by machine.
One of the nice things about pottery. In the last couple of weeks I have made a series of cups from a clay called 570. A very white clay that will produce some beautiful blues. These may get i the fire in the next few weeks.

new year cups

Hello and happy New Year everyone! I decided to make at least a weekly attempt to blog my activities concerning pottery.
I am currently working in the area of ceramics and thought it might be interesting to log my adventures. This will include images as well as any comments.

In the past year I was working with a variety of espresso type cups. These cups were made with the famous Shino glazes that were developed in Japan several centuries ago. I love the earthy character of these glazes. The example on the left is called called a carbon trap glaze. The sheen is really nice and I am lucky when I am able to get it. The other small cup I call moab- it really captures the area in Southern Utah. I will post some images from my last art fair and my future art fairs in that part of the country....
